Late nights, too many glasses of bubbly, forgetting to take your make-up off after a hard night's partying. All of these things, and more, can add up to tired, sore eyes that leave you feeling decidedly un-Christmassy.
We've put together some top tips to keeping your eyes healthy and looking beautiful this festive season.
Have you been digging out your sparkly eyeshadow from two Christmases ago? Don't. Old make-up can be packed with bacteria and lead to eye infections, so throw it away.
Keep cosmetic brushes clean – you can buy special brush cleaner nowadays – or throw them away if they get too old and mucky.
Try to remember to take your make-up off before going to bed as well.
Tempting as it may be to share make-up with colleagues when you’re all getting ready for the office Christmas party – don’t! Bacteria and infections are easily spread, so no oversharing!
If you wear contact lenses, remember to take them out before going to bed (unless you know you can leave them in overnight). There’s nothing worse than waking up with contacts glued to your eyeballs. Read more of Adam’s top tips on contact lenses.
Be prepared – take extra contact lenses or solution with you on a night out.
Keep your body hydrated – alcohol can dehydrate you so make sure you drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids. And try to eat healthily too in between all the mince pies and Christmas cake. A nutritious diet can benefit your eyes as well as your general health.
They may look funky but never buy coloured or other contact lenses without proper advice from your optician.
Get some sleep!
Don’t be afraid to wear sunglasses during the festive period either – winter sun can be strong so protect your eyes.
Oh, and finally, watch out for those popping champagne corks!
